You Disagree With Both Obama and Romney? Sucks For You.
Have you noticed how every presidential debate consists of only two candidates – the Democrat and the Republican? Where are the big third party candidates? Doesn’t it make sense to at least include some? Everyday an MSNBC anchor spits out – “Obama is so amazing”, and someone on Fox news yells – “Romney is our last hope”. So why doesn’t anyone mention Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party? Why doesn’t anyone mention Jill Stein of the Green Party? Johnson is on the ballot in 34 states and Stein is on the ballot in 32. Each is in the process of securing his/her place on every state’s ballot.
It’s understandable that presidential debates don’t include every single third party candidate. But not including candidates from the third and fourth most heard of political parties is ludicrous. If the candidates don’t attempt to get onto the debate floor, then there is no problem. The problem arises when major third party candidate like Johnson does try to get on the stage with Obama and Romney, and the people running the debates don’t want him there.
Yet, despite this trend, the likes of imbeciles such as Herman Cain are allowed to get onto the debate stage for primaries.
So why are people like Herman Cain allowed onto the debate floor, yet candidates like Johnson aren’t? Especially given the fact that Johnson had a very successful two term governorship in New Mexico?
Chances are it’s because the people in charge like the two party political system. They benefit from it. They know that a third party could ruin their party’s chance at winning the election – such as how some Democrats believe that Nader stole votes from Gore in 2000, which “cost” Gore the election.
Not allowing major third party candidates into debates is essentially like spitting those parties, and the people who support them, in the face. It also prevents people from realizing that there are alternatives to the two party political machine. Saying that every voter’s voice is heard when they vote is bullshit, when those peoples true representative of choice isn’t even allowed to engage in debate with the other candidates. It’s time to let more third party candidates into debates so that people at least realize that there’s an alternative to the two party system.
